It’s the Tryon Outhouse Races!

Teams of daring individuals, armed with nothing but a trusty outhouse and plenty of determination, will sprint, stumble, and roll their way to glory in one of the town’s most unforgettable traditions. But these aren’t ordinary outhouses. Each one is creatively built and decorated to reflect the personality, humor, and style of the team behind it. Imagine a colorful parade of portable potties, each one a masterpiece of ingenuity that will leave you in awe (well, maybe! 😉 ).

Grab some friends, build your outhouse, and join the fun. It’s easier than you think:

• Form a team of 3 or 4: One rider inside, 2 or 3 pushers.

• Build and decorate your rolling outhouse.

• Fill out the sign-up form to register or request more information.

 

BACK THIS YEAR: Kids Race Division 🎉

We’re excited to add a kids category for ages 8–12! This is a great way for younger racers to join the excitement in a fun, safe, and memorable way.

 

 

General Guidelines

• Outhouse must be on wheels

• Outhouse must be large enough for the rider to sit inside without their head touching the ceiling

• Outhouse must be man-powered only (pushing or pulling — no electricity, fuel, or motors of any kind)

• Ages 13+ for the main race

• Kids division for ages 8–12

Teams will be competing for more than bragging rights this year!

Of course, the fastest outhouse will earn the honor of housing the grand trophy for the year—but the prizes don’t stop there. The winning team will also celebrate with a $75 gift card to Buck’s Pizza and enjoy a night out with a $50 gift card to the Tryon Theatre.

Love building and decorating but not feeling so speedy? Enter an outhouse in the parade for a chance to win the Creativity Prize!

This category celebrates the most original, funny, and eye-catching designs. Entries will be featured as part of the event festivities and judged on creativity, decoration, and overall presentation. It’s a great way for families, younger kids, businesses, and groups to take part and show off their imagination. The team with the most creative outhouse will win a $75 lunch at Brooks Tavern plus a $25 gift card compliments of The Bottle!
